Little Nahla Needs A Home
Nahla is a little Corgi/Dachshund mix. She is right at a year old and around 10-12 pounds. Nahla's family had to give her up because they had to many dogs. They were very unset, but she just had to find a new home.
The family also had five children, so Nahla should be great around kids. In fact, she also gets along with all dogs and cats.
Nahla is housebroken and walks on a leash. Sounds like a smart and an already trained dog to me.
If you are interested in or know someone who is looking for the perfect sized companion, please check out Nahla's Petfinder Page.
And look at that tail, it's a happy tail!

Happy 4th Year Forever Home Anniversary Sophia
Happy 4th Forever Home Anniversary Sophia!
It has been four years ago today that Sophia and I found each other. I made this poster a few months ago and decided to use it today.
Four years ago today, I met Sonja (of Riverhill Rescue) and
a small and wary Apricot Poodle that I found on Petfinder. I had to wait a couple
of days longer to get the little poodle than I wanted. Sonja insisted on taking
her to the groomer so she would look less like a ragamuffin and more like a
Poodle.
For Fraggle (that was her name), this probably was just one
more trip in her life. She had spent her short life in the puppy auction and
puppy mill system. However, she had some good luck and managed to find her way
to Riverhill Rescue and then to me.
For me, it was love at first sight
Life with Sophia has been a challenge at times. At the time
of her adoption, I had never heard of puppy mills and all that goes with them.
Sophia got out pretty early, so she does not have the severe emotional damage
that I have heard of other owners facing.
Little did I know the direction my life would take because
of one little Apricot Poodle.

Tuesday's Tails-Cheeco The Chihuahua Would Love A Home
I would like you to meet Cheeco. He is a little seven pound seven month old Chihuahua that was saved from a high kill shelter. At the moment Cheeco is in foster care which means he is being very socialized.
He is a gem in and a half. Cheeco loves to play with toys, is leash-trained, and gets along well with other dogs, cats and birds. He is crate-trained and housebroken. Cheeco sounds like a pretty smart boy to me!
If you want or know anyone who would needs a perfect little companion, please go to his Petfinder page which is here.

Tuesday Tails-Amelia Wants To Fly Into Your Heart!
Look at those wonderful ears! When I first saw Amelia's picture, I immediately thought of Sally Fields and the Flying Nun. And you can tell her tail is wagging!
Here is the story on Amelia. Amelia was found abandoned, sitting in the middle of the road. She had just give birth to puppies but thy were nowhere to be found. A very kind person found her but could not keep her and brought her to Riverhill to find a new home.
Amelia is very well-behaved and housebroken. She is a little shy at first but warms up quickly and is very calm. To find out more about Amelia, click here. This will take you to Riverhill's Petfinder website.
We just think Amelia has one of the cutest faces we've seen and hope she can find a new home.

Tuesday's Tails-Sandy Would Love To Have A Home
Sandy-A Tri-Color Pomeranian/Chihuahua
Sandy is so cute we have decided to give her a new breed name of "Pomachi".
Sandy is in rescue because the family who owned her had to many dogs and had to give her up.
She is between one and two years old. Sandy can actually do some tricks.
Riverhill feels that she would do best in a home with adults and older children. Sandy would probably not do well with infants or smaller children.
Her adoption fee is $85.00. This includes her spay, routine vaccinations, including Rabies, heartworm test, and major worming.
If you want or know someone would like to give Sandy a home please click here.
We think Sandy is a real cutie and hope she can find her home.

Tuesday's Tails-Chico Wants His Forever Home
This is Chico. He is a Chihuahua/Greyhound mix.
Chico comes from an older lady whose family put in assisted living. However, first they made her take her dog to be put to sleep. But the caring people at Riverhill stepped in to rescue him.
He's a sweet boy who loves tummy rubs. He will do great as an only pet or in a multiple pet family. Chico does great walking on a leash. He is crate trained and housebroken if you let him out on a regular basis.
Chico weights about eight pounds and is about five years old. His personality is more on the Italian Greyhound side.
He loves chewies and toys. Chico would be the perfect companion. To read more about Chico, please click here.
After what the lady's family tried to do, we hope Chico finds a great home soon. He has been waiting a year this month for a home. That is a long time.

Tuesday's Tails-Brandy Needs A Home
Brandy's tale would be over, if the caring people at Riverhill Pet Rescue had not stepped in last November.
Brandy was found abandoned at a local shopping mall and was scheduled to be euthanized, but RH stepped in and took her. Brandy is about a year. She is active, but listens and learns quickly. She gets along with all dogs and is housebroken.
Brandy is part cattle dog. She does great on a lead, is very affectionate and sits quietly at your feet. this sounds like an awesome dog to us and think it is time for Brandy to get to have her Forever Home.
The adoption fee is $85.00. This includes her spay, routine vaccinations including rabies, worming and heartworm test. Brandy tested negative on her heartworm test and is on preventative.
To find out more about Brandy, click here.

Crystal, The Havanese With The Beautiful Ears
I am happy to report that Crystal has been adopted!
Today, we have a little Havanese who needs a home. Crystal is three years old and weights eight pounds. She is very social and cute but just a little on the shy side. A fairly quiet and adult only home is what Crystal needs. She would not do well in a busy home with young children.
She is totally crate-trained and housebroken if she is taken out on a regular basis. Crystal gets along well with other dogs and cats.
The adoption fee is $100.00. This includes her spay, dental, 5-way Vaccination, Rabies Shot, Heartworm test, and worming. Crystal is heartworm negative and has been started on preventative. What a great deal for such a beautiful girl.
You can find out how to adopt Crystal here.

Matilda is a three year old retired breeder who needs a home. She is very social and just a little shy when you meet her. She is calm and loving. Matilda is not a nuisance barker but will bark to let you know someone is there. She only weights six pounds.
Matilda would make a perfect companion for someone older or someone with older children who have been taught kindness to pets.
She is crate trained and housebroken if you take her out on a regular basis. Matilda's adoption fee is $100. This includes spay, dental, 5-way vaccination, rabies shot, heartworm test and worming. What a deal for a cute girl who needs a break.

An Interview With Sonja Of River Hill Rescue
Hi,it's Sophia.Today we have something very special. We are interviewing Sonja Wotring-Hicks. She is the lady who has a place called Riverhill Rescue in Warsaw, Missouri.
Dylan, Niko and I just didn't walk up to Mom and Dad's door and knock. We had to have help finding them. Sonja took us in at a time when we didn't have homes and kept us happy until our forever family found us. All three of us came from Riverhill Rescue so that makes us even a closer family.
Mom wrote the questions. But, I had the idea of putting pictures from Riverhill's Petfinder list between each question. I think that was a great idea I had. Maybe someone else can find a home too.
So here goes.......
1. Us:Did you have pets as a child?
Sonja: Yes.

age, so did you ever dream you would
be doing this when you were in your 20s?
Sonja:To one degree or another I have
done this my whole life. Just never
dreamed it would take over my whole
life.

This is Chico. He is an Italian Greyhound and Chihuahua mix. Find out more about Chico here |
3. Us: When and why did you decide to start
your own animal rescue?
Sonja: When the Animal Shelter here in
Warsaw closed I had no choice. My
friend, Carol, who now runs Stover
Animal Control, and I took the few
dogs that were left at the Animal
Shelter and that is how it started.

This is Sandy. She is a Pomeranian/Chihuahua mix. Find out more about Sandy here. |
4. Us: How important is
social media?
Sonja: Social Media is great for
advocating for dogs that are in
danger or in kill facilities.

5. Us: We know there are a lot of
hard
things to deal with in what you do.
What are two of the hardest?
Sonja: Seeing so many dogs that are in
dire circumstances and not being able
to help and not enough time.
6. Us: How has the Missouri Puppy mill
system affected your rescue?
Sonja: I have taken in many retired
adults and a few puppies with
health challenges.
7. Us: There are a lot of private rescues.
What are some things we as a concerned
community can do to help you?
Sonja:
1. Make folks aware that it is better to adopt than to buy. Most any type of dog someone is looking for is available in public and private facilities.
2.Encourage folks to find ways to keep their pets instead of surrendering them to pounds, rescues etc. Most of the time solutions can be found.
3. Foster dogs. Some need short term fosters and some need
long-term fosters.
4.Offering to help transport dogs to other rescues. If you are taking a trip to the city etc. ask if a local rescue needs help getting a pet there. You can also sign up with local rescues as a volunteer to help transport. Most of the"legs" are not too long.
8. Us:What is the hardest type of animals to
place?
Sonja: All black dogs. Labs and lab
mixes, Shepherd mixes, and medium
and large mixed breed dogs. The
hardest of all are the poor Pit Bulls and
Pit mixes.

That wraps up our interview with Sonja. We just wanted to let her know how much we appreciated everything she does for all the homeless animals. And we know there are so many unsung heros in this cause. It does take a community to save one soul. So here is a shout out to the countless who foster, transport, and find homes for all of us.
